Toronto Raptors All-NBA Star Kawhi Leonard Agreed on Two-Year $115 Million Contract Extension
It’s been a wild, eventful summer for this two time NBA champion. However, now things are finally beginning to settle for the small forward. But not before getting a new deal inked. On Tuesday afternoon it was confirmed that Toronto Raptors All-NBA star Kawhi Leonard has agreed on a two-year, $115 million contract extension.
The move comes as Leonard was set to enter the final year of the three-year, $149 million extension he signed with the Clippers in 2024. Under his previous deal, Leonard was set to make $50.3 million during the 2026-27 NBA season.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on the Leonard contract extension with Toronto. Regarding the Raptors deal with Kawhi, Charania states,
“Just in: Toronto Raptors All-NBA star Kawhi Leonard has agreed on a two-year, $115 million contract extension with the franchise, plus a player option for the 2028-29 season, his agent Harrison Gaines of SLASH Sports tells ESPN.”
ClutchPoints Brad Siegel adds to Shams report, mentioning,
“Kawhi Leonard will be 37 years old entering the 2028-29 season, which will be the final year of his new 2yr/$115M contract extension with the Raptors. He now joins Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Paul George, Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell, and James Harden in the NBA’s $500M club.”
This contract extension came on the heels of a blockbuster trade that sent Kawhi Leonard back to the Toronto organization. The trade was put on hold due to the NBA launching an investigation into the Clippers regarding salary cap circumvention.

The NBA came down hard on the Clippers as a result of that investigation, docking the team five first-round draft picks, fining owner Steve Ballmer $30 million and suspending him for a year. Leonard was not suspended as part of the investigation, though was fined $700,000.
Toronto’s contract with Leonard is a slight risk. Giving a large sum to a veteran player could seem like playing Vegas tables. However, Leonard’s court production outweighs the risk; despite his age, Kawhi has still been one of the best in the league.
In his six seasons with the Clippers, Leonard averaged 25.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He made four All-Star teams and received MVP votes three times.
