Timberwolves Anthony Edwards Underwent “Successful” Arthroscopic Procedure on Ailing Right Knee

Every Minnesota fan can breathe a sigh of relief. Everything went well for Antman. Yes, Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards underwent a “successful” arthroscopic procedure on his ailing right knee at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, on Thursday, the team announced.

The announcement read as follows:

“The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the following injury update on guard Anthony Edwards:

Edwards underwent a successful right knee arthroscopic procedure for debridement today by Dr. Craig Bennett at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He is expected to make a full recovery and further updates of his progress will be provided when available.”

The recovery timeline has not been specified. We’ll hope to see him back on the court soon, in any case. However, there are some key words and phrasing that implies that the time period may not be excessively long.

Two words stick out: debridement and arthroscopic. Arthroscopic means that it is minimally invasive. Debridement is a fancy medical word as well as general term for “shaving / removing” tissue that is damaged / inflammed.

Nevertheless, Edwards production will be missed on the court. He has had a stellar start to the 2026-2027 season. In four games this season (all starts), Edwards is averaging 33.3 points on 48.1% shooting, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in 33.8 minutes per game. The Wolves can’t wait to get him back and fully healthy.

Edwards will be determined to get back on the court as quickly as possible, both to qualify for end-of-season awards, and to possibly be eligible for a future supermax contract extension.

However, the Minnesota Timberwolves are not the only team going through it when it comes to injuries; or players being sidelined. Notable players currently out with injuries suffered this season:

Anthony Edwards (knee)

Jalen Williams (leg)

Paolo Banchero (ankle)

Kawhi Leonard (knee)

Jalen Duren (hamstring)

Jaren Jackson Jr. (knee)

Cason Wallace (shoulder)

Jalen Suggs (knee)

Ivica Zubac (ankle)

Then there was also this group:

AJ Dybantsa (ankle/ finally made debut against Cavs), Kon Knueppel (hamstring), Tobias Harris (calf), Coby White (calf), Nic Claxton (hamstring), Mark Williams (shoulder), Jusuf Nurkic (toe) among those hurt before season yet to play. Therefore, league is definitely seeing a lot of players hurt. And many teams are navigating the best they can.
