Team USA Gets Massive Win Over France For Fifth-Straight FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup
It may not have started pretty. But it ended in a full display of dominance. Team USA gets a massive win over France for its fifth-straight FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Both Team USA and Team France came out swinging. With less than three minutes to go in the first quarter, there were FIVE lead changes. However, as the first quarter concludes, France is up by three.
In the second quarter, France begins to really pile on the pressure. Building a 11-point lead. Which rapidly increased to 14. Two and half minutes went by and the USA had not scored.
But the United States was not going down without a fight. They cut France’s lead down to just six points. Going on a 10-2 run led by Jackie Young and Breanna Stewart. The veterans experience was proving to be invaluable.
Nonetheless, the run at the end of the second quarter by Team USA kept the score close. Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark checked in with just seconds to go in the first half providing an energy shifting SPARK. Reese causes France to turn the ball over and Clark takes advantage by hitting a timely three. At the half France is up by only two points, 45-43.
Coming out of halftime the United States kept their momentum strong. Tying things up then taking a seven point lead. From there they kept their feet on the GAS.
With less than a minute in the third USA was up by 17! France hit a much needed three, but Caitlin Clark ended the quarter going coast to coast. Third quarter ends with the United States up by 16.
France looked off balance. The country was not used to playing from behind. Throughout the Cup they have led their opponents. After the USA retook the lead after halftime, France’s offense cooled. However, with four minutes left the French women gave it one last strong effort. But it would prove to be too little, too late.
Team USA would prove to be the Golden Girls yet again. After an incredible second half performance (the 30-12 third quarter was the difference); the United States is gold again, getting its fifth straight World Cup title. It’s 12th gold medal overall. Convincingly defeating a powerhouse France roster 97-79. The Americans are unbeaten in 36 consecutive matches.
Team USA is in very good hands. Five players finished in double figures, including Breanna Stewart with 22 points. Stewie also led Team USA in PPG & RPG at the World Cup.

Jackie Young was honored as the Player of the Game. And was consistently the USA’s best scorer throughout Cup competition. Stewie was presented with the MVP Award.
Caitlin Clark led all bench players in scoring for Team USA at the World Cup tournament. With Team USA Clark now ranks: 1st in AST and 5th in PTS. All while coming off the bench.
Barbie was also fantastic. On both sides of the ball. Angel Reese led Team USA in blocks at the FIBA World Cup tournament. Nonetheless, the United States now ties the longest gold medal streak in women’s World Cup history (Soviet Union from 1959-75). Congratulations to Team USA!
