Still No Word from Quarterback Aaron Rodgers if He Will Return as Steelers Prepare for the Draft
They are excited about the upcoming NFL Draft as it will take place right in their city. Sitting on twelve draft picks the team will have a lot of decisions to make about who to select. And we don’t know if the quarterback position will be one of them. There is still no word from quarterback Aaron Rodgers if he will return as the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the NFL Draft. By now they had hoped to hear from the veteran quarterback about his plans for the future. Will the 21-year veteran return for another season this fall? That’s what the Steelers would like to know but so far have not received a response from Rodgers.
And they’re not expecting to receive any word from Rodgers prior to the NFL Draft this week. According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, general manager Omar Khan, “We’ve had some great communication with Aaron,” Khan said. “Nothing’s changed, but it’s all been positive and good. I said this to you guys in March, he knows how we feel about him and we know how he feels about us.”
Ironically, Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy was out of the league last year and had a chance to attend the draft. It was held in Wisconsin where McCarthy had coached Rodgers when both were with the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy said, “I’m going to be in the draft room here for Year 33. We don’t go to the Draft. But I think it will be great everybody gets to experience it. I had a chance to experience it for a day last year and this is going to be awesome. So, I’m definitely excited for the week and for Pittsburgh.”

Nevertheless with Rodgers being incommunicado the Steelers will have to move forward with the draft without Rodgers. As noted by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, they just named Will Howard QB1. Last season Howard was the backup quarterback to Rodgers. He appeared in one game, did not make a start, but gained experience through practice reps and sideline work.
As for Rodgers, in 2025, he started all 16 games, throwing for 3,322 yards on 327 completions from 498 attempts. He finished with a 65.7% completion rate, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions for a 94.8 passer rating. The Steelers would very much like for Rodgers to return but they will have to move forward in the meantime. And that starts with the draft that will be held in Pittsburgh this week starting on Thursday.
