Sharks Macklin Celebrini Is Cover Athlete for EA Sports NHL 27–Youngest Player to Appear on Cover
The good times just keep on coming. Celebrini has quite the year, but now he gets to add one more exciting honor to his hockey legacy. The Sharks center Macklin Celebrini is the cover athlete for EA Sports NHL 27 making him the youngest player to ever appear on the cover. Beating out Trevor Zegras who was 21 when he appeared on the cover of “NHL 23” as a member of the Anaheim Ducks.
For the covers, Macklin can be seen wearing a white Sharks road jersey on the Standard Edition cover. And a teal Sharks home jersey on the Deluxe Edition.
At just 20-years-old Macklin has already made quite the name for himself. Celebrini represented Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics and recently was named the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Male Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season. Celebrini also led the Olympics with five goals and was second with 10 points in six games. He helped Canada to bring home the silver medal and was named to the tournament’s All-Star Team.
Nonetheless, what does Macklin think about his EA Sports cover? Simply put, he loves it. When asked about the cover he said, “I thought it was amazing. I loved it,” Celebrini told ESPN. “Fairly simple process: They just sent it to me and I was just like, ‘Yeah, it looks good.'”

Furthermore, the National League went on to reveal additional reasons as to why Macklin was the perfect choice and fit for the 2027 cover. The league stated,
“The 20-year-old, who was the No. 1 pick by San Jose in the 2024 NHL Draft, was a finalist for the Ted Lindsay Award presented annually to the most outstanding player in the NHL, as voted by the NHL Players’ Association, after he finished fourth in the League and set a Sharks record with 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) in 82 games last season. He had a point in 60 games, including at least three 18 times, and at least four points five times. Celebrini had 33 power-play points and five game-winning goals to help San Jose finish 39-35-8 with 86 points after it had 20 wins and 52 points in 2024-25.”
The San Jose Sharks center was unveiled as the cover athlete for this year’s game, with the “Reveal Trailer” premiering on YouTube at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday. Macklin is now the second Sharks player to grace the cover of the video game following Owen Nolan in 2001
