Russell Wilson At a Crossroad as He Has to Decide Between Football and Television
He’s spent an electrifying 14 years in the NFL as a premier quarterback. The former Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowler became one of the most prolific dual threat players in the league. After a successful career with the Seattle Seahawks, he signed a lucrative deal with the Denver Broncos. But a couple years later the Broncos brought in head coach Sean Payton who lacked any chemistry with Wilson. Therefore, he moved onto the Steelers followed by the New York Giants. Now Russell Wilson is at a crossroad as he has to decide between football and television. Right now, he has not made a decision.
According to Russell there is a possibility that he could return to the Big Apple but not with Big Blue. But with their city rivals the New York Jets.
“They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do,” Wilson told The New York Post on Wednesday. “I still know I can play ball and do that at a high level, but I also have the opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
Ironically, Smith served as the backup to Wilson for three years when they were both with the Seahawks. If Wilson goes to Gang Green, he will be the backup to Smith. As the Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich has made it clear that Smith will be the starter. Reich even referred to Smith as the perfect fit for the Jets. Wilson would serve as a veteran backup for a team that has rookie Cade Klubnik, Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook in the quarterback room.

At 37, Wilson would be entering his 15th year in the league. He feels he can still play but his season with the Giants last year was one of his worst. He started in three games and appeared in six others, putting up 831 yards and three touchdowns on 119 pass attempts, all career lows. Eventually, rookie Jaxon Dart was named the starting quarterback. Then he was overtaken by another veteran quarterback Jameis Winston moving him to third-string quarterback.
So, does Wilson want to remain a backup to Geno Smith who has also had his fair share of trials in the league? Or would taking a television job be the path of least resistance for him? Wilson is a nice guy who loves doing community work and helping other people. He would surely bring a unique perspective to broadcast television. Either way he has options, so we’ll have to wait and see which one he chooses.
