The NFL recently has sent a memo to teams. In order to inform them that Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris are ineligible to visit, try out or sign with them during the 2026 NFL season, per Tom Pelissero of Netflix Sports. Wright and Harris were granted a temporary restraining order that allowed them to return to college football this season. However, backlash from conferences over their plans to sign with LSU ultimately ended that possibility.

Regarding this CFB and NFL situation Tom Pelissero reports,
“The NFL sent a memo to clubs today clarifying that DT Zxavian Harris and TE Dae’Quan Wright — who returned to LSU after being in NFL training camps — are ineligible to visit, try out with or be signed NFL clubs during the 2026 NFL season.
After various court, SEC and NCAA developments, LSU ultimately did not add Harris or Wright to their 105-man roster. They are now without a place to play in 2026; they have already been draft-eligible, so they’ll be free agents after the season.
The NFL noted in the memo that this list is not inclusive of all 2026 draft-eligible players who returned to college and directed questions about other players to the league’s management council.
“Clubs are reminded that it is each club’s responsibility to verify player eligibility. If a club is unable to verify a player’s eligibility, either on its own or in consultation with the NFL Player Personnel Department, the club may not sign such player to a contract and may not otherwise permit the player to practice or play with the club (including a visit or tryout). Violations may subject the club to discipline, including the loss of draft choices and/or fines, and club personnel may also be subject to fines and/or suspension. If there is any question regarding a player’s NFL eligibility, it is imperative that the club contact the NFL Player Personnel Department.”
Therefore, both Wright and Harris are ultimately locked out of playing anywhere at all in 2026. Furthermore, it looks like the league is making a firm statement in this matter. Athletes will have to make serious, definite decisions regarding their futures. The NFL is making crystal clear and setting a standard that you can’t “go pro” and then demand a release to go back to college.
