Columbus Blue Jackets President and Alternate Governor Mike Priest Retiring Sept. 30

The regular season begins at the end of September. But Columbus has a big change occurring within their organization. Columbus Blue Jackets president and alternate governor Mike Priest has announced he’s retiring Sept. 30.

So then, with this retirement announcement from Priest; what will the future look like in the Blue Jackets franchise? The team reveals that John H. McConnell II, grandson of franchise founder and son of majority owner John P. McConnell, will continue his growing presence within the organization by taking over Priest’s duties “for the immediate future.”

These details and more can be found in the official statement the Blue Jays released Wednesday afternoon. The organization stated,

“Mike Priest, who has spent the past 30 years with JMAC, Inc., the private family holding company of John P. McConnell and the McConnell family, majority owners of the Columbus Blue Jackets, and served as president and alternate governor of the National Hockey League club since 2007, has announced he will be retiring on September 30.

“For three decades, Mike has been an invaluable member of the JMAC and Blue Jackets families and has played an integral role in helping shape both companies during periods of growth, change, and opportunity and has done so with integrity, professionalism and a commitment to our staff, customers and fans,” said John H. McConnell II, JMAC, Inc. chairman. “On behalf of my family and everyone at JMAC and the Blue Jackets, I want to thank Mike for his contributions and unwavering dedication and wish he and his family happiness and good health in the years ahead.”

For the immediate future, McConnell Il, who serves as a Blue Jackets alternate governor, will assume the duties associated with the role of president of JMAC, Inc. and the Blue Jackets. Priest, who joined JMAC, Inc. in 1996, will serve in an advisory capacity through the end of the calendar year.”

There are Columbus fans who have wanted Priest out for some time. Now their wishes have come true. Question is, will the Blue Jackets now begin to see more success in revenue and on the ice? For the fans, here’s hoping that many other future developments cause the CBJ franchise to land on a better path.
