Los Angeles sports fans have seen this before on different occasions. Athletes making a promise to the city to achieve greatness. Most recently, Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers who mentioned he would help bring multiple championships; and thus far has succeeded in winning two titles in 2024 and 2025. Now the purple and gold’s superstar is taking the same path. The Los Angeles Lakers Luka Doncic took out a full-page ad in the LA Times this morning ahead of the team’s home opener. With a stirring message of a championship run.
Winning is not easy. However, the Lakers feel they have assembled a team strong enough to make it happen. Luka and AR are ready to lead the LakeShow into the future. Along with new acquisitions such as Kevon Looney and Walker Kessler.
Luka Doncic says that the purple and gold will do everything in their power to put themselves in a position to go on a championship run. And he put words to pen. In the Los Angeles Times readers got to learn of the team’s determination. Doncic took out a full-page ad in the LA Times on Wednesday, declaring his championship goal and calling this season’s Lakers a “special team.” In his one page ad, Luka wrote:
“Tonight we start our run for a championship.
Every player dreams of holding that trophy.
To do it for all of you amazing fans would mean everything to us.
Each of us understands what it means to put on this purple and gold jersey and follow the players who wore it before us. It means so much because of the passion and dedication that generations of you all have shown for this team.
I see it everywhere. The hats, the flags on cars, the murals. This city has people from all over the world, speaking every language, and the Lakers are the thing that brings everyone together.
We have a special team. We know what you expect, and we are going to do everything in our power to deliver it.
From the moment I arrived in LA, you welcomed me with open arms. That is something I will never forget.
So here is my promise to you: we are going to give you everything we have, every single night.
No excuses. No nights off.
But we cannot do this alone. You are the best fans in the world, and we are going to need you.
Every game, bring it with us.
Let’s go.”

Wednesday evening, 22 franchises will at long last begin their season. On Tuesday, the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder got their first victories of the season over the Knicks, Celtics and Spurs.
The Lakers tip off their season tonight versus Golden State. Both teams revealed injuries that they are contending with at the moment. However, Luka dropped 43 PTS (17/27 FG), 12 REB & 9 AST against the Warriors in last season’s opener. And hopes to have a powerhouse performance again tonight.
