NBA 2026-2027 Season Opened with Triple-Header and Pistons, 76ers, Thunder are Winners

Baseball is about to wrap up their season with the World Series. The NFL is headed into Week 7 already and now the NBA regular season is officially underway. The NBA 2026-2027 season opened with a triple-header and the Pistons, 76ers and Thunder are winners. On the losing end were the Celtics who lost to the Pistons. The 76ers got the victory over the Knicks. And the Thunder spanked the Spurs in their opening game. Some have even referred to the Thunder Spurs match as Game *, in reference to the 2025 Western Conference Finals match.

But before we get to that rematch let’s take a quick peek at the other two opening day games. First off, the Pistons were fighting to stay in the game against the Celtics. It seemed as if the Celtics constantly had at least a six-point lead throughout the game. Nevertheless, the Pistons were able to battle back in the second half and erase a 22-point deficit. In the end, the Celtics lost 121-113 to the Pistons. It looks like Boston will miss the presence of Jaylen Brown who is now a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

Speaking of the 76ers, they hung tough with the reigning champion New York Knicks. In each of the first two quarters, the Knicks only outscored the 76ers by two points. It was in the third quarter that the 76ers exploded, outscoring the Knicks by 11 points. 24-year veteran LeBron James also made his debut with the 76ers. It looked strange not seeing him in a Lakers uniform but that did not hinder his performance. Tyrese Maxey (28 pts), Jaylen Brown (19 pts), LeBron James (14 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast, 1 stl, 1 blk) and Joel Embiid (13 pts, 11 reb, 6 ast, 3 blk, 2 stl) showed chemistry in their debut together. They beat the Knicks 106-100.

The most shocking loss was of the Spurs to the Thunder. Last season the Spurs were the young, exciting team that looked like they could win it all. That team did not appear last night. They number of missed shots was staggering. The officials did not make any egregious calls in favor of the Thunder and the Thunder won handily. The Spurs weren’t able to do anything with the Thunder as they had their way with them. Since it was just Game 1 there is no need to panic. But clearly, the Spurs will need to get their heads back in the game. Eventually the Spurs torture came to an end with a 116-104 loss.

There will be 11 NBA games played today on Wednesday October 21. And many more to come, it’s a long season.
