Kelsey Mitchell Breaks A’ja Wilson’s WNBA Single-Season Scoring Record
On Tuesday night, the Indy crowd melodiously chanted MVP at their decisive home game. And it’s easy to see why when their Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell recently made a sport of putting her name atop the all-time record books. Kelsey Mitchell breaks A’ja Wilson’s WNBA Single-Season Scoring Record with a 30+ points performance!
Kelsey Mitchell scored 33 points last Friday to set a WNBA season scoring record in Indiana’s 103-85 win over Toronto. With a 3-pointer in the third quarter of the game, Mitchell eclipsed the 1,021 points A’ja Wilson scored in 2024. At the very moment the record became Kelsey’s, Mitchell had garnered 1,023 points and counting. However, by the end of regulation, Mitchell was up to 1,034.
But that’s not all Kelsey accomplished on this historic occasion. During that very record setting game here are a few other accomplishments Mitchell attained:
Kelsey Mitchell Achievements:
Set WNBA single-season scoring record
Set single-season franchise-record for 3-pointers made
Her 9th game with 30+ PTS this season
Kelsey Mitchell Breaks A’ja Wilson’s WNBA Single-Season Scoring Record
Mitchell is definitely enjoying a Most Valuable Player season. And it’s showing throughout the league and within the Indiana franchise. Back on August 20, Mitchell reached another milestone. Kelsey broke her own franchise single-season scoring record with 891. And now, she is WAY past that mark; becoming one of the only WNBA players to have a 1000+ point season.
Flash forward to the end of September and Kelsey is still wowing us all. Last night, after a win against the Minnesota Lynx, Kelsey Mitchell has now scored 20 or more in 27 straight WNBA games. Twenty-seven. Mitchell hasn’t scored below 20 points in over 3 MONTHS.
She extended the league record with exactly 20 against Minnesota as Indiana won 96-77 to keep its slim hopes of first-round home court alive. At this point, 20 points has stopped looking like a scoring target for Mitchell. It has become her floor.
Additionally, she is looking like a playoffs threat along with her teammate, Caitlin Clark. For instance, Caitlin Clark had 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and Kelsey Mitchell added 20 points to her WNBA single-season scoring record as Indiana beat Minnesota.
Moreover, when Kelsey set the season scoring record last week, the duo went NUCLEAR on the court. Mitchell and Caitlin Clark together dropped 61 POINTS. 14 ASSISTS. 7 THREES.
Mitchell looks good. Indiana looks good. This year’s playoffs is shaping up to be cinema.
