Colorado Rockies First Team to Lose 100 or More Games in Four Consecutive Seasons Since 1960s Mets
It is a bit of history that this ball club is going to want to bury and forget. Something that has not occurred in over 50 years. The Colorado Rockies are the first team to lose 100 or more games in four consecutive seasons since the Mets did it from 1962-1965.
Usually, “firsts” are a good thing. A breaking through the ceiling moment. However, Tuesday night’s milestone was not. The Colorado Rockies have become only the 5th MLB team ever to lose at least 100 games 4 years in a row. They are 203 games under .500 during this span.
In fact, this season on the other end of the spectrum you have franchises such as the Milwaukee Brewers with 98 wins, the Los Angeles Dodgers with 97 victories and the Tampa Bay Rays with 96 wins. The Rockies have amassed 100 losses before any team got to or could reach 100 wins this year. Winning may be hard at times, but the Rockies are losing at a faster rate than top teams can rack up “W’s.”
Tony Renck, a columnist for The Denver Post gave a brief history lesson about ball clubs who have found themselves devastatingly way under .500 on multiple occasions. As well as what contributed to Colorado’s downward trajectory. He writes,
“Given the slump the past five weeks, the inevitable happened. Rockies reached 100 losses. They are the fifth team in MLB history to lose 100 or more games in four consecutive seasons, joining 1962-65 expansion New York Mets, 1961-64 Washington Senators. 1938-42 Philadelphia Phillies (5) and 1909-12 Boston Doves/Braves. Rockies are 7-26 over their last 33 games and their starters are 0-11 over last 24 games.”

Darren McKee who covers Colorado sports for Altitude Sports Radio 92.5 also weighed in on the Rockies tough season and unfortunate legacy. McKee states,
“100 losses 4th year in a row.
Hasn’t happened in 61 years (‘62-65 Mets).
With a lockout likely, losing 100 next year may be impossible. That would tie the 38-42 Phillies.
Did they improve this year? Yes. Especially offensively. But they had the worst pitching staff in baseball. Subpar defensively and lost a ton of one run games.
Is what it is…with five games to go – that truly don’t matter.
Thus, ends the Rockies 2026 season.”
McKee is right, Colorado did actually make some improvements this season. They took some steps. However, they have a ways to go to turn it around. Few teams have had bounce back seasons after losing 100.
DNVR Sports Christian Saez sums it up best, “Not to start this off on a downer, but let’s be real here. The Rockies roster still largely resembles the roster that infamously lost 119 games in 2025. As of January 5th, 2026, all signs pointed to this team looking very similar to the team of yesteryear. Now that isn’t to say that the Rockies didn’t see some improvement/development from some of their young players. It sucks, but when you lose 119 games in a season it takes a LONG time to get things back on track. Especially with an entirely new front office. Rockies showed signs of life this year but ultimately are still a ways away from competing at a high level.”
