Head Coach Jesse Minter Ushered in New Era in Baltimore with Decisive Win Over Indianapolis Colts

John Harbaugh had been there for almost two decades, but it became clear that a change was needed. Harbaugh went on to the New York Giants and yesterday the Giants got the victory over the hated division rival, Dallas Cowboys. However, the Ravens put on a show against the Indiana team yesterday. The Ravens replaced Harbaugh with Jesse Minter. On Sunday, head coach Jesse Minter ushered in a new era in Baltimore with a decisive win over the Indianapolis Colts. It’s never an easy thing to transition to a new head coach after the previous one had been so long with the team.

Minter had his team playing well and giving the Colts fits. The Ravens offense got the party started, scoring four touchdowns on its first five drives. But everything can’t always be perfect as demonstrated by the defense. They allowed the Colts to drive 65 yards on nine plays for a touchdown to start the game. However, Minter acknowledged the issue and admitted that they, “had us on our heels a little bit.” Yet, that lapse did not last long. On the Colts’ next five drives they only managed 23 yards but committed two turnovers. Roquan Smith made a leaping interception. And Marlon Humphrey forced a fumble by ripping the ball away from running back Jonathan Taylor.

The second half offense was less effective in the second half, largely due to Zay Flowers not returning. He exited midway through the second quarter with a hamstring injury. But he put in the work prior to eventually being ruled out of the game in the fourth quarter. He had five receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown in one half of football.

However, Minter also had to deal with rookie Ja’Kobi Lane suffering a wrist injury that will likely keep him out of the game for weeks. No timetable for his return has been given. So, it appears Minter may have some offensive challenges ahead of him. But, during the game he didn’t allow these setbacks to slow the team down. His message to them for the second half was, “put our foot down.” So it wasn’t surprising that Marlon Humphrey made the following statement:

“We came in at halftime, and he wanted to continue to pour it on,” cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. “I think, obviously in the past maybe two seasons, that’s kind of been our Achilles heel of having a lead and not being able to –defensively – keep the lead, so that’s been a major thing.”

“It’s surreal a little bit, honestly. I don’t know if it has actually hit me yet,Minter said. With his first win as the Ravens’ head coach in the books, Minter can take a breather… for about 24 hours. Congratulations coach Minter on your first victory!
