Grizzlies Trading NBA All-Star Ja Morant to Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray
Memphis is still working on unlocking the right mix of players for ultimate success. Since entering the league in the mid-nineties (1995 … originally as the Vancouver Grizzlies); the franchise has never made an NBA Finals appearance. Although they have reached the Western Conference Finals once and claimed two division titles. Nevertheless, believes more changes are necessary in order to get on a better path. With this in mind, the Memphis Grizzlies are trading two-time NBA All-Star Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.
With the return of Damian Lillard from injury, Morant is a welcomed additional piece for the Trail Blazers roster. According to NBA insider, Chris Haynes, “The Portland Trail Blazers envision a starting backcourt of Damian Lillard and Ja Morant alongside Deni Avdija on the wing. A very unconventional move that the franchise believes has upside. Ja Morant gets his fresh start. Jerami Grant and Kris Murray off to Memphis.”

The Trail Blazers still have plenty of salary-matching options to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Celtics, even after trading Jerami Grant for Ja Morant. However, the Blazers view Ja Morant as their “big move” and have no active plans to pursue Jaylen Brown. On the flip side of things, Memphis is still a team trying to figure things out. But this upcoming season the franchise could be looking at a starting five rotation that includes: Zach Edey, the newly drafted Cameron Boozer, Cedric Coward, Jerami Grant and Ty Jerome.
Following the trade of Ja Morant to Portland, the Grizzlies have now traded all three of their former franchise cornerstones — Morant, Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. — since being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.
