Memphis Grizzlies Veteran Forward Brandon Clarke Has Died At 29

Just unbelievably tragic news. Memphis Grizzlies veteran forward Brandon Clarke has died at 29. On Tuesday, the Grizzlies made the official announcement regarding Clarke’s sudden passing.

LAFD responded to an 911 call of a medical emergency around 5PM on Monday evening in San Fernando Valley, and the 29-year-old was declared deceased, per NBC4. Clarke’s death is currently being investigated. No official cause has been determined or released.

Clarke was a first-round draft pick in 2019 and was an All-Rookie First Team selection. He averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds in seven NBA seasons for Memphis. Moreover, in college, Clarke dominated at Gonzaga:

2017 First-Team All-Mountain West

Brandon played the game with such incredible joy; and it was clear that basketball was his passion. As news of the Clarke tragedy began to circulate, the Grizzlies organization released the following statement:

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Furthermore, Memphis teammate Ja Morant also took to social media platform, Instagram to express his grief and condolences regarding Brandon Clarke. In a story post Morant wrote, “this hurt BC… love you broski. Gone way too soon … it’s bigger than basketball.”

Additionally, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued the following statement today regarding the passing of Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke:

“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke.  As one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit.  Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon’s family, friends and the Grizzlies organization.”

Brandon Clarke was busy both on and off the court. He had a good heart and was always thinking of how to help others. Grizzlies beat writer, Damichael Cole summed up Clarke’s strong desire and philosophy to do good towards others this way, “Really sad news out of Memphis. Brandon Clarke has died. He was 29. He was great with kids. He had just established his own foundation and was committed to pouring into the Memphis community. I went to two of those events. Keep his family in prayers.” Yes, our thoughts are with the Clarke family, their friends as well as colleagues at this time.
