Ethan Salas is the Youngest Catcher in MLB History With Two Home Runs in a Game

WAY TO GO KID! The San Diego Padres rookie just can’t stop being historic. Just days ago versus the San Francisco Giants, Salas became one of the youngest catchers to have their first MLB hit be a triple. Now, the SD sensation strikes again. At 20 years and 107 days old, Ethan Salas is the youngest catcher in MLB history with two home runs in a game!

Currently, San Diego is in the fight of their lives as they continue in the hunt for a postseason berth. While the Los Angeles Dodgers are close to having the NL West all sewn up. The Padres are very much in the mix to grab a WC.

They are battling it out with the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres have a little bit cushion at last between themselves and the Dbacks (3.5 games). And are just 1.5 games behind Chicago and within just one of the Phillies.

National League playoff picture looks like it might come down to a photo finish. But if things ended today, San Diego, the Phillies and Cubs would all be safely in as wild cards. And with the Dbacks losing to the Marlins on Wednesday evening, the Padres now control their own destiny to clinch before the Diamondbacks even come to Petco Park for the final series of the season.

Nevertheless, it’s still been all hands on deck for the Padres. Everyone pitching in to get to the playoffs. However, it’s not just the vets stepping up. But the franchise’s future youth core. Case in point, Ethan Salas.

In the Padres’ 9-3 victory over the Rockies on Wednesday night at Coors Field, Salas launched the first home run of his career. Amazing. But then, he decided he would continue building up his legacy and lore; by once again being historical. So he hits another one! Becoming the youngest catcher in MLB history with two home runs in the same game.

Another cool thing, is that Ethan’s pair of home runs isn’t just league wide history. But it is a major franchise accomplishment as well. Ethan Salas is now the youngest Padre at any position to hit two homers in a single game.
