Chase Utley Officially Inducted Into the Phillies Wall of Fame
“In Philadelphia you don’t get respect. You earn respect.” What a great speech by the six time All Star second baseman. Friday evening, Chase Utley was officially inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame. Chase Utley was presented with a mini version of his Wall of Fame plaque by none other than Philly legend Rob McElhenney.
Even after his Phillies Wall of Fame induction, Utley continued to herald about the love Philadelphia showered on him. Playing in Philly truly meant something to Chase. He expressed to the media,
“I adore this town. I mean, we had such amazing moments over the years. We created so many memories together…So I’m as much obsessed with the fans as they seem to be with me.”
It is not hard to see why Chase is so beloved by Philadelphia. He represents five division titles, four Silver Sluggers, two pennants and a World Series championship. Additionally, who can forget the impression Utley made when he put on a Phillies uniform for the first time? He hit a grand slam in his first game with the Phillies.

Jayson Clark of The Athletic asked Chase Utley if his Phillies Wall of Fame induction made the Hall of Fame seem more attainable. Since he is the leading returning vote getter. However, Chase Utley says he’s not ready to comprehend that yet. Chase reflected,
“I’m not sure you can really fully grasp being in the Hall of Fame. That is something that I would imagine the majority of young kids, young players, that’s not what their goal is. Their goal is to get to the majors. So it’s hard to fully understand what that moment would feel like. Tonight was incredible doing it in front of the incredible fans that supported me over the years, and with a bunch of my teammates and friends and family, teammates and coaches. That was a special moment for me.”
Utley finished his 16-year career with a 64.6 WAR, 259 home runs, and a .275/.365/.465 slash line. Moreover, the Phillies legend and second baseman batted .301/.388/.535 during his five-year peak from 2005 to 2009.
