Cavaliers Officially Complete Mario Hezonja Signing as Nets Have Also Completed Signing Moe Wagner
Two players and two franchises had a bit of business to finish. And on Friday both teams got the job done. The Cleveland Cavaliers officially complete the Mario Hezonja signing as the Nets have also completed the long-anticipated signing of Moe Wagner.
According to the NBA’s publicly available transactions log, the Cavs at long last today completed the signing of a Mario Hezonja to a one-year deal. And the Brooklyn Nets have officially signed Moe Wagner to a two-year $19 million contract. Moe’s signing will come out of cap space, and will bring the Nets down to roughly $4.5M remaining in cap space. Furthermore, Brooklyn also has the full $9.4M Room Exception available.
Third Apron producer, Yossi Gozlan confirmed the details regarding Wagner stating,
“The Nets held off on this signing to see if they could spend $14 million in cap space first. By officially signing Moe Wagner, they’re down to $4.5 million in cap space and have the $9.4 million room mid-level exception as well. They can take both into the season.
The Nets could use their remaining cap space to renegotiate and extend Michael Porter Jr. They could raise his 2026-27 salary up to $45.3 million and add up to four additional seasons, with the 2027-28 salary reduced by up to 40 percent.
It would trigger a six-month trade restriction. That makes August 4 a significant date for potential negotiations since the trade deadline is expected to be on February 4, 2027.”
Wagner was selected with the 25th pick in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft by the Lakers after spending three years (2015-18) at the University of Michigan. Wagner recorded averages of 9.0 points on 51.8 percent shooting from the field. While also shooting 32.3 percent from 3-point range and 80.8 percent from the free-throw line, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 16.2 minutes per game. The 29-year-old played in 36 games last season with the Magic, posting averages of 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game.

Getting back to Hezonja, this signing is a “NBA homecoming.” Mario returns to the NBA for the first time since 2019-20 after playing in Greece, Russia and Spain over the last six years.
Hezonja is glad to be back in the Association. Via social media he says,
“Never liked how I left the NBA but these past 5 years have been exactly what I wanted and much needed! I am super happy that my new chapter is with Cavs a team and organization that I have always admired and respected!”
Mario most recently played for Real Madrid during the 2025-26 season. Appearing in 80 games (71 starts) across EuroLeague, Liga ACB, the Spanish Cup and ACB Supercup competition. He averaged 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 23.1 minutes while shooting .848 from the free throw line. Aiding Real Madrid to capture back-to-back Liga ACB championships in 2024 and 2025.
