New Orleans Saints and Wide Receiver Chris Olave Agreed to New Extension
He has come up big for the team when it comes to catching the football. As the No. 11 overall pick of the 2022 draft, Olave has eclipsed 1,000 yards in three of his four seasons since entering the league out of Ohio State. Getting him re-signed was necessary and he hoped it would happen before training camp. But it didn’t happen until yesterday, Thursday morning. The New Orleans Saints and Wide Receiver Chris Olave agreed to a new extension.
Olave was headed for the final year of his rookie deal. But now he doesn’t have to worry about that with the new extension, details of which were provided by NFL Insider Adam Schefter on social media: “Just in: Saints are signing WR Chris Olave to a four-year extension worth up to $132 million, including $90 million guaranteed, his agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, and Robert Bailey, tell ESPN.”
Last season he set career highs in receptions (100), yards (1,163), and touchdowns (nine). In all, he’s caught 291 passes for 3,728 yards with 19 TDs in 55 games. However, he missed the 2025 season finale against the rival Atlanta Falcons due to a blood clot in his lungs. Last month the Saints held him out of team drills, and he did not participate in organized team activities. It was a good decision to play it safe with the star receiver. And it didn’t prevent him from getting the new contract extension.
Head coach Kellen Moore called it “awesome for our team, awesome for Chris” in his Friday press conference.

Commenting further on the new deal the head coach went on to say:
“Just awesome for what he’s gone through in his career, the success he’s had, also the things he’s had to navigate,” Moore said. “At the end of the day, when everyone is shooting for the same goal, it’s a matter of time before it gets figured out. Sometimes the business part takes a little precedence, which is fine. And I think everyone’s really, really excited for where this thing’s going.”
Therefore, with the new deal in place Chris Olave’s brief hold-in has come to a close. However, he did mention that former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was one of those people, offering advice to him throughout a process that ultimately ended with the most lucrative extension in franchise history.
