Boston Red Sox on a Roll as They Tie a Franchise Record of 15 Straight Wins

Things got off to a gloomy start just as fans had expected. It didn’t appear that the franchise had done enough to get the team off to a good start. But after beating the Los Angeles Angels on July 3, they haven’t looked back. The Boston Red Sox are on a roll as they tie a franchise record of 15 straight wins. That franchise record was set a long time ago in 1946. Now their modern-day counterparts are looking to continue reeling off wins. Having only lost three games since they started winning back in July.

To say the Red Sox have been on a tear is a mild understatement. They have won nine straight series starting with the three-game set beginning July 3 against the Angels. In July their record was at 37-47, but they entered at August 58-51. Talk about a quick turnaround! According to mlb. com: “Only two previous teams had even entered a month 10-plus games under and exited two over: the 2019 Giants in July and 1996 Red Sox in August. The Red Sox went 21-4 in July this year. That .840 winning percentage is the highest in a calendar month in franchise history, minimum 15 games.”

So, what was holding the Red Sox down and what is now accounting for their recent and dramatic improvement? Apparently, the answer to both questions is the same. Driveline. On air personality Matt McCarthy posted his feelings on the matter on social media when a Driveline employee asked: “Did Driveline still ruin the Red Sox? Just need a status update.” To which McCarthy responded: “Given the Red Sox turned it around immediately after your boss got fired (sorry, left to pursue other opportunities), I’m gonna go with yes!”

Masslive.com provided some details regarding Driveline: “Driveline Baseball owner Kyle Boddy has left the Red Sox to pursue other opportunities in professional ball, he confirmed via text message to MassLive on Wednesday. Boddy served as a special advisor to chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, who hired him in January 2024. Boddy initially helped Breslow launch the Red Sox’ baseball sciences department, working as its interim director. He then shifted to a more traditional advisory role.”

That Masslive article was updated on June 17 just before the Red Sox went out and set the league on fire. The wins have been piling up since the exit of Boddy. Is that a coincidence? It seems not, but whatever the case the Red Sox fans couldn’t be happier about their team’s turnaround. As it stands today, they are 1.5 games behind the rival Yankees and five games back of the Tampa Bay Rays. Thanks to their newfound zeal the AL West is up for grabs!
