Azzi Fudd Becomes FIRST Rookie in WNBA History to Win State Farm 3-Point Contest
The People’s Princess put on quite the show on Friday night. The Dallas Wings’ Azzi Fudd just became the FIRST rookie in WNBA history to win the State Farm 3-Point Contest. She is just the fourth rookie ever to compete in the event, behind Sonia Citron, Rhyne Howard, and Kelsey Mitchell. Azzi is also now the first WNBA 3-Point Contest winner from UConn!
Moreover, Fudd didn’t just make history she also demolished the record for amount of points scored by a rookie during the fun tourney. Azzi smashed the record for most points scored in the contest by a rookie; scoring six more points than any previous rookie competitor. Thanks to a performance where Fudd improved upon her score in the final champion round.
Rhyne Howard held the previous record with 24 PTS. However, that total was posted in the first round in 2022 – in the final, she posted a disappointing 14. Meanwhile, Fudd matched Howard’s first round total (24) at the same stage Friday night before going on to IMPROVE her tally in the final round (30PTS).
Nonetheless, Fudd is not the first WNBA to win this contest with 30PTS. Three-point specialist and New York Liberty champ, Sabrina Ionescu can also brag about scoring 30. In 2025, Ionescu won the 3-Point Contest with 30 PTS in the final round.

So then, what’s next for Azzi Fudd? Well, now she would like to take on her NBA mentor, the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry. In 2018, Azzi Fudd was one of the first two girls invited to Stephen Curry’s elite SC30 Select Camp for top high school prospects (alongside Cameron Brink). She competed against the boys, won the camp’s 3-point contest, and then got a one-on-one shootout against Curry himself. He beat her 20-16.
Eight years later, Fudd has become the first rookie in WNBA history to win the 3P Contest. And now she wants to re-challenge one of the best (if not the best); shooters in the history of the NBA.
After her historic win, Fudd challenged Curry to a rematch stating, “Steph, if you’re listening… I’ve been asking for a rematch since high school. So maybe this is our time to figure out a time and place.”
This is feeling very Star Wars. Anakin and Obi Wan. Who will have the high ground?! We’re kidding. But if Steph does accept Fudd’s challenge all basketball fans are in for an entertaining battle.
