Atlanta Dream Unable to Relocate Their WNBA Finals Games to State Farm Arena
One of the hottest tickets in ATL this weekend, is going to be an EXTREMELY limited. Which is an unfortunate outcome for women’s basketball fans that would like to take in the deciding series that will crown the W’s champion. After a flurry of interest the Atlanta Dream have been unable to relocate their WNBA Finals games to State Farm Arena.
The Dream hoped to play at State Farm Arena, which seats more than 17,000 people, but were unsuccessful as the arena is currently booked during Games 3, 4 and 6 for a concert and two Atlanta Hawks regular-season games. Atlanta will play at their 2026 home arena, the Gateway Center Arena, that has a capacity of 3,500. The Dream will have all home games at State Farm Arena next season.
Alternatives have been floated around and discussed. For instance, there was a possible scenario to move the games to Gas South Arena in Duluth (northeast of the city). The arena there held the 2013 WNBA finals game and almost has similar seating capacity as State Farm Arena. However, at this point in time all talks have unfortunately failed and fallen through. Thus, scratching Gas South Arena off the Dream’s list of potential backup locations.
On Sunday afternoon, things had not improved for Atlanta and their fans. Zach Klein of ABC-TV Atlanta, reported,
“League sources tell me, barring a last second change of plans, the Atlanta Dream will play Games 3 and 4 (and 6 if necessary) of the WNBA finals at Gateway Center Arena – Capacity 3500 -[The] Dream are trying everything possible to move to State Farm Arena, but SFA is booked (concert and 2 Hawks games).
SFA is home away from home and this is WNBA finals. Sources say they want team to be as comfortable as possible. Gateway Center Arena is not ideal for finals, but better than everything new.”

Thankfully in the future this particular issue will not be a problem. It will become a relic of the past that will end after this season. The Atlanta Dream have a new deal with State Farm Arena for all their home games going forward. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the Dream announced they will become official tenants and will call State Farm Arena home next year. The move comes as part of a multi-year agreement and amid record growth for the league. Next season, the WNBA will move to 50 games, and State Farm will host the Dream’s 25 home contests.
Atlanta advanced to the 2026 WNBA Finals after finishing the regular season as the No. 4 seed and sweeping the Washington Mystics in the first round, and the New York Liberty in the semifinals. The Dream return to the Finals stage for the first time since the 2013 season. Atlanta is 0-9 all-time in Finals games.
