A Klay Thompson Reunion with the Golden State Warriors Appears to be a Possibility
Trades always open up other avenues and possibilities. Just one day ago we wrote about one such occurrence. The trade of Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks resulted in the Dallas Mavericks receiving a former number one pick. That trade resulted in the Mavs receiving Zaccharie Risascher on Sunday. Risascher plays the same position as Klay Thompson which makes a trade of Thompson even more likely. Hence a Klay Thompson reunion with the Golden State Warriors appears to be a possibility. As Thompson himself said, “Never say never.”
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to get younger, so they are putting their money on the 21-year-old. Rather than the 36-year-old Thompson who no longer fits in their youth building culture. Thereby making him available to return to where it all started for the aging veteran. He would fit right in on a team that is currently loaded with talented and experienced players. Such as Steph Curry, his former “Splash Brother” and Jimmy Butler who is recovering from a knee injury. Not to mention Al Horford and potentially LeBron James if he ever makes a decision.
Letting Thompson go would seem to fit in with the Mavericks plans to go younger. They currently have 16 players contracted for next season. That means they will have to make another trade or waive/buy out a player to reduce it to the 15-player maximum. Therefore, Thompson and Daniel Gafford have already been floated as the most likely to depart. The addition of Risacher makes Dallas even more open to moving the 5x All-Star.
A Klay Thompson Reunion with the Golden State Warriors Appears to be a Possibility
The Golden State Warriors definitely need more help as Butler and Moody recover from their injuries. And since there is no guarantee that LeBron will choose Golden State as his next destination, they need to make alternate plans. Last season Thompson served more as a veteran sharpshooter off the bench. He averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.9 three-pointers per game. According to Sportstats365.com, the Golden State Warriors scored 114.5 points on average in their NBA 2025/2026 games. But conceded 115.2 points on average. So, Thompson can be helpful to their cause.
And no doubt Warriors fans would love to see Klay back in the fold. Especially since they didn’t want to break up the duo of Curry and Thompson in the first place. However, since Stever Kerr is still the coach he may not want to have Thompson back again. But it’s too early to tell what will happen yet so we’ll all just have to wait and see.
