WNBA Hits Record Attendance Mark For 2026 Season—Valkyries-Fever and Liberty Top List
Since the 2024 season business has been booming for the Women’s National Basketball Association. Two years later and the league is still reaching new heights. The WNBA hits record attendance mark for its 2026 season.
Fans cannot seem to get enough of women’s basketball. They are not just viewing games at home. But they are putting in the effort to see their favorite teams and players live in action. So much so, that various matchups have had to move to bigger venues just to accommodate increasing demand as well as interest.
The WNBA drew a league-record 3.79 million fans to games in 2026, a 20% year-over-year increase. The 25 games relocated to larger arenas drew 388,997 fans and averaged 15,743, a 40% lift over games played in the usual arenas.
What is also impressive is that the top five teams drawing in the biggest in-person audiences includes two expansion teams. The Golden State Valkyries and Portland Fire. For two new franchises to generate such excitement and enthusiasm for the game. It shows that the WNBA still has more room for growth and that things show no signs of slowing down in the near future.
For instance, the Bay Area has been all in on their team from the very beginning. The region sold out all home games the past two regular seasons. And the Valkyries already have a waitlist for season tickets.
The Indiana Fever led the WNBA in combined total attendance for both home and away games, while the Golden State Valkyries drew the largest average home attendance. The 2025 expansion franchise sold out all 22 home games (18,064 fans per game) for the second consecutive season, leading the league in total and average attendance as well.
The Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever remained the league’s biggest draw for opposing fans, as the team averaged 15,116 fans on the road. Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings were second, averaging about 13,200 fans during their road games.
