Top Prospect Darryn Peterson Declares For The 2026 NBA Draft
Will he or will he not? That has been the question after a challenging season for this Kansas standout. However, he’s made a decision and is letting the entire basketball realm know. Top prospect Darryn Peterson declares for the 2026 NBA Draft. The 6-6 freshman averaged 20 PPG this season.
While there were those who at one point had Peterson going number one overall. Darryn has slipped just a tad in rankings. And we mean just a smidge. Popular belief is that the Kansas star guard is still a projected Top 3 pick. Despite dealing with unfortunate injuries, Peterson, 19, earned Second Team All-Big 12 and Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors, as he averaged 20.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 24 games this past season.
Some other top four names being tossed around include: AJ Dybansta, Cam Boozer and Darius Acuff Jr. BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, who is deemed the potential No. 1 pick — has also declared for the 2026 NBA draft just this week.

Nonetheless, to announce his entrance into the draft, Peterson released the following statement:
“To my teammates, friends and everyone at the University of Kansas, a heartfelt thank you!” Your belief in me, your encouragement and your constant support have been invaluable every step of the way. This journey has been everything to me, and none of it would have been possible without your love, support and sacrifices.
To my family, you have always been my foundation, to my teammates; you are my brothers for life. To the coaches and staff at Kansas, I am grateful for your trust and for helping me grow both on and off the court.
And to my fellow Jayhawks, thank you for embracing me and making this experience truly unforgettable.
After much reflection and prayer, I am proud to announce my decision to declare for the NBA Draft. This has been my life long dream and I am excited for the future.
Rock Chalk Forever.”
Nice. Well, we will just have to wait to see where Peterson lands. The 2026 draft is Tuesday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 24, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
