Timberwolves Lose Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo in First Half of Game 4
Sometimes sports is just not fair. Minnesota has taken a commanding lead in their playoff series versus the Denver Nuggets. But could they be on the verge of losing the war? On Saturday, the Timberwolves lost both Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo in the first half of Game 4.
In the first quarter DiVencenzo went down grabbing his left leg. He immediately waved for assistance while sitting on the court. Donte appeared to suffer a non-contact injury. In time he was helped back to the locker room.
As for Edwards, in the second quarter with a little less than three minutes remaining in the half, Anthony landed awkwardly and was immediately observed holding his left knee. Regarding these injuries, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported,
“Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo has been diagnosed with a torn right Achilles tendon, sources tell ESPN. His season is over with a lengthy recovery. Devastating blow for the Timberwolves starting guard.
And Anthony Edwards is set to undergo tests on his injured left knee. He had been playing through runner’s knee in his other knee. The Timberwolves starting guards sustain injuries in the first half tonight in Game 4 against Denver.”
Nonetheless, without their star player and dynamic role player the Timberwolves have taken a stunning 3-1 lead on the Nuggets. And they accomplished it with 26-year-old Ayo Dosunmu putting the Wolves on his back and heading to glory. In Game 4, Ayo went off putting up 43 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.

In fact, Ayo Dosunmu of the Timberwolves is the first player in NBA history with: 40+ points, 75% FG shooting, 5+ threes without a miss and 10+ FT without a miss … in any game (regular season or playoffs, off the bench or not). Furthermore, he also becomes the first player in franchise history to put up 20+ points off the bench in consecutive playoff games. A solid postseason performance that helped Minnesota defeat the Nuggets, 96-112.
However, Donte’s injury is yet another tally in the postseason injury category. Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Tyrese Haliburton, and now Donte DiVincenzo have all suffered a torn Achilles injury in the playoffs within the last year. Sports doctors have tried to explain why injuries are becoming more prevalent in the NBA. And the NBA commissioner has even dispatched researchers to examine this issue. Hopefully a solution comes to the fore because losing stars during meaningful basketball games is such an unfortunate outcome for teams and fans.
