Tennessee Titans Make Blockbuster Trade with Chicago Bears for DT Jeffery Simmons
In the midst of the 2026 NFL season a big deal just happened. It was unprecedented and not quite expected. Nevertheless, the deal that couldn’t be refused went down anyway. The Tennessee Titans made a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears for DT Jeffery Simmons. General Manager Mike Borgonzi said on Thursday:
“Jeff has been an elite player in this organization both on and off the field,” Borgonzi said. “My respect and admiration for him is probably more than any player I’ve been around. … These are tough decisions, and at no point any time since I’ve been here did we every try to trade Jeffery Simmons – we’ve gotten a lot of phone calls, but it never really crossed my mind.
“I got a phone call late last night from a person I have known for a while, Ryan Poles, GM with the Bears, and he’s really the only person that came out and said: Would you accept this?”
Borgonzi could not turn down the trade offer as he kept his eye on the future. The Bears will get Simmons and a fifth-round pick in the 2028 draft. Whereas the Titans get the following haul: 2027 first-round pick from the Bears, 2027 fourth-round pick from the Bears and 2028 first-round pick from the Bears.
This deal is truly a big one as pointed out by Adam Schefter who posted: “A first, literally: Jeffery Simmons is the first defensive tackle in the common draft era since 1967 to be traded for multiple first-round picks.” And Ari Meirov added to the fanfare posting about the speed of the deal: “#Titans GM Mike Borgonzi said #Bears GM Ryan Poles called him last night about doing the Jeffery Simmons trade. It happened that quick. Wow.”

Simmons was a first-round pick of the Titans in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has been named to four Pro Bowls and was a five-team captain during his time with the Titans. Controlling owner of the Titans Amy Strunk made the following statement regarding Simmons:
There are few people like Jeff Simmons. We are forever grateful for all he has given this team and this city.
His formidable presence on the field was surpassed only by what he did off it. He gave Nashville more than football. The Give ‘Em A Reason Foundation has changed lives in Middle Tennessee and in Mississippi, and I have no doubt it will continue to wherever he goes.
Jeff — thank you. For how you played, how you led, and how you represented our team.
No doubt Simmons is a great addition to the Bears defense. However, their secondary still needs some help. As for the Titans their defense has had issues with the passing game. However, they could definitely use those picks on the offensive side of the ball.
