Tennessee Titans and Offensive Guard Peter Skoronski Agreed to Terms on Extension
Having a good offensive line to protect your franchise quarterback cannot be overstated. Prior to the start of the season, offensive linemen have been getting paid. Seeking to protect their hope of the future, Cam Ward, the team decided to take action. Over the weekend, the Tennessee Titans and offensive guard Peter Skoronski agreed to terms on an extension. His fifth-year option had already been picked up earlier this year. Now this extension gives him long-term security.
Fortunately for the Titans they had ample cap space to make the signing. Especially since quarterback Cam Ward is still on his rookie contract. Terms of the deal were provided by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport who posted:
“Sources: The #Titans and standout G Peter Skoronski have agreed to terms on a huge new extension to make him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. Skoronski gets a 4-year, $100M deal with $88M guaranteed, as the former No. 11 overall pick, a Cam Ward bodyguard, cashes in.”
And his steadily improving stats were listed by Brandon Thorn on social media. He pointed out that Skoronski did not miss a snap for the second consecutive season and emerged as a refined pass-protecting guard. He’s attributed to having precise hands, clean weight distribution and advanced leverage control. All of that allows him to create and sustain positioning on rushers and playing longer.
Skoronski commented on what his expectations are for himself and the team are:
“I think that’s a good way to put it,” Skoronski said. “But for me personally, my process has always been my process, and that’s to be the best player I can be. The team rewarded me by picking me high three years ago, and that has been my process ever since, to be the best player that I can and help the team win.”

Of course, he will want to help Cam Ward to excel in his role as quarterback. Last year, Ward started all 17 games and threw for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns with 7 interceptions. However, he did absorb a league-high 55 sacks. So, Skoronski and the rest of the offensive line will have to improve their protection.
Nevertheless, Skoronski is very happy with his new deal and expressed the following sentiments:
“This is obviously a huge blessing, but for me the process stays the same and that is being the best player I can. I think that is all I can do to reward the team the best I can and to give back to what they gave me.”
