Phillies’ Luis Arraez Suffers Apparent Ankle Injury and Exits Brewers Game
He provided a spark Philadelphia needed after the trade deadline. But now the ball club could lose their acquisition due to injury. The Phillies’ Luis Arraez suffers an apparent ankle injury and exits Brewers game.
During the bottom of the sixth inning, Luis Arraez got a hit and began to make his way to first base. However, the Brewers defense acted fast to throw Luis out. In an effort to avoid the tag, Arraez twists his body then in a second effort loses his balance.
Arraez slips and begins to fall to the ground. But his ankle briefly, nanoseconds, gets stuck in the ground. Close replay confirmed these events and showed Arraez to instantly be in a great deal of discomfort. Luis was eventually removed from the game and field with assistance. He will now have further evaluation.
Matt Gelb a Phillies beat reporter for The Athletic reported on Luis Arraez’s injury and on the Phillies team situation in general. Gelb stated,
“Luis Arraez appears to have suffered a bad left ankle injury. He’s down in pain. He needs help to leave the field. Luis Arraez could not put weight on his left foot, and now there are a lot of questions about how the Phillies might handle a late-season injury.
The Phillies, who are making it much harder on themselves, have lost again. They might have lost Luis Arraez too. Those who stayed until the end are booing. The vibes are not great.”
As Gelb mentioned, unfortunately, the evening would not improve for the Phillies. They would ultimately lose the final game of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers would walk away with the win, 5-1. With Milwaukee accomplishing something their ball club has never achieved, a 100 win season.
Phillies’ Luis Arraez Suffers Apparent Ankle Injury and Exits Brewers Game
Therefore, while the Brewers continue to celebrate a strong season; the Phillies find their own season in peril. The postseason is slipping away and if they do not act quick; Philadelphia could possibly find themselves missing the playoffs completely.
With a sweep of the Colorado Rockies the Diamondbacks are now just 2 GB and hold the tiebreaker heading into the series in San Diego. If Arizona goes 3-0 and Philly goes 1-2, they’re in. Any combination of gaining two games is all they need. So then, if the Phillies want to keep their spot they must have a good final series.
