Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts Expected to Miss the Remainder of the 2026 Season

We were recently informed that he wouldn’t be playing in the Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers. Despite all the unfair criticisms he regularly receives, he’s a big part of the reason why the team has been competitive since his arrival in 2020. Unfortunately, after the discovery of the superficial blood clot in his calf more blood clots have been discovered in his lungs. So, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected miss the remainder of the 2026 season. The Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn provided the following statement regarding the health status of quarterback Jalen Hurts on Monday morning:

“Over the last few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts. In the interest of transparency, we are providing additional information on the diagnosis and treatment plan related to his condition.

“Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (i.e. “blood thinners”). During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.

“We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.”

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the blood thinners treatment is expected to sideline Hurts for at least three months. Blood clots are serious and should not be taken lightly. So the Eagles are taking precautions and not trying to rush him back to the playing field. The Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve two days ago. Hence why he did not play in the Sunday loss to the Panthers.

Tanner McKee has stepped in as quarterback for the Eagles. In Sunday’s start, McKee completed 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown, and no turnovers. No turnovers are always what you want from a quarterback. However, he sees room for improvement, stating:

“First thoughts, my team needs me to be better,” McKee said after the game. “I need to be better. I am so much better and I’m looking forward to learning everything and becoming the player that I know I am, the player that I can prove that I am.

“A lot of things that were frustrating that fall on me and a lot of things we gotta get fixed as an offense for sure.”

The Eagles have lost a lot of players to injuries and currently sit at 2-4. Therefore, we wish a healthy recovery to Jalen Hurts even if he’s not likely to play again this season.
