Philadelphia Eagles’ Offensive Tackle Lane Johnson Announced His Retirement
All good things must come to an end and today was that day for one offensive lineman. After winning two Super Bowls alongside other recently retired Eagles, it was time for him to join the club. Today, Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement. After an incredible 14 seasons of domination, Johnson made the decision to step away from the game. He had intended to play out the 2026 NFL season but decided to step away before Week 5 starts.
Lane was originally drafted by the Eagles with a first-round draft pick in 2013, No. 4 overall. He became a force to be reckoned with dominating the right side of the offensive line. His career includes two Super Bowl victories, three NFC Championships, five Associated Press All-Pro Awards, and six Pro Bowl seasons. Johnson was also a man of the community. He recorded three holiday albums with fellow Eagles offensive linemen Jason Kelce and Jordan Mailata to raise millions of dollars for local charities. And he was named the team’s 2023 nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award
Zach Berman, senior writer at the Atlantic described him as “the best player I’ve seen on the Eagles in 15 years. He changed the game when he played — and as Howie Roseman once said, he changed the way the right tackle position is viewed.”
His on the field prowess and off the field largesse will not soon be forgotten. However, Johnson decided he needed to prioritize his mental health and his family as he stated in his retirement post on instagram.

Owner, Jeffrey Lurie also released a glowing statement about Johnson. He summed up Johnson as a man and player quite nicely.
“Lane Johnson is an all-time Eagle and one of the best players ever to play his position in NFL history. Lane was a major contributor to our team success for 14 seasons, helping to bring two Super Bowl Championships and many other memorable moments to the organization and the City of Philadelphia.”
He went on to elaborate:
“Lane excelled under multiple coaching staffs, maintaining an elite level of play throughout his entire career. His combination of talent, strength, athleticism, and intelligence made him a truly unique player in this league, and there is no doubt in my mind that one day he will be named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“Beyond his on-field accomplishments Lane has done a tremendous amount to give back to the community through his numerous charitable endeavors. The courage he has shown using his own personal experiences to advocate for mental health awareness has undoubtedly saved lives.
“We appreciate everything Lane has contributed to our organization, and we wish him and his family nothing but the best.”
Congratulations Lane Johnson on your retirement!
