Nikola Jokic Joining Anthony Edwards as Global Basketball Ambassadors for Sprite

Sometimes you just have to Obey Your Thirst. The soda with the lemon-lime crisp taste is tapping yet another big name in the National Basketball Association to be a face of the longtime brand. The Denver Nuggets Nikola Jokic is joining Anthony Edwards as global basketball ambassadors for Sprite.

Sprite officially unveils its new global platform, “Never Stop Refreshing the Game,” with the addition of three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić to its global basketball athlete roster alongside superstar Anthony Edwards. “Basketball brings people around the world together,” said three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić. “Sprite has been part of the story for decades and I’m excited to partner with them to continue bringing the game to the next generation.” Anthony Edwards adds:

“From Anta Claus to Obey Your Thirst, Sprite’s been cooking up some of the best campaigns that will live on forever. ‘Never Stop Refreshing the Game’ is no different, reminding every player out there to give it their all and stay true to who they are every time they step on the court.”

In his first advertisement for the Sprite company, Nikola plays off his nickname, Joker. The ad sees him being a stand up comedian at a comedy nightclub. Nikola Jokic walks out onstage holding a Sprite, takes a drink, puts the can down and checks to see if the microphone is on and working. He then delivers the following performance:

“Anyone want to hear some good jokes? Because I have none… [audience laughs]. Anybody play basketball, nope? Probably not good enough. You guys want to see an impression of someone not interested? [Classic Joker expression-less stare/crowd laughs again]. What do you call a factory that makes okay products?… Satisfactory. [Jokic takes another sip of Sprite as audience chuckles]. Anyone from Serbia? Ehh, there’s only a few of us. Bye, bye. Great crowds.” The ad then ends with the following wording displayed: “Jokes aside, Welcome Joker.”

One might ask why Sprite has gone for the Joker x Antman duo as Sprite’s global basketball ambassadors. The reserved Jokic and big personality Edwards have very different styles on and off the court.

But they are united by being two of the most talented players in the game. They both are uniquely original, and “absolutely comfortable in being who they are.” That authenticity is exactly the type of partner and personality Sprite loves to celebrate.
