LA needed the win. Finding themselves already down a game in the NLCS, the only way up was to get a victory and tie things up. But on Monday evening it was not to be, as their ace and catcher found themselves not quite on the same page. Moreover, the Dodgers’ Yoshinobu Yamamoto early NLCS Game 2 exit led to the Milwaukee Brewers getting a 7-4 victory.

Yamamoto exited NLCS Game 2 for the Dodgers in the 3rd inning after throwing 75 pitches. Part of the problem is that Yamamoto and catcher Will Smith didn’t seem to be a harmonious unit. The Brewers’ Brice Turang reached twice against Yoshinobu Yamamoto on bad calls. They both would’ve been strikeouts had the Dodgers challenged. On the second one, Yamamoto gestured and made it clear that he wanted to challenge, but Will Smith chose not to.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto came into this game riding a streak of four straight postseason starts – all on the road – of at least six innings and no more than one run allowed. However, he didn’t make it through the third inning today in arguably his biggest start of the year.

Nevertheless, Milwaukee had another great showing. They look like the team to beat thus far; having moved past the San Diego Padres and now gone two games up on the reigning champions.

Furthermore, the Brewers have looked close to flawless and relentless offensively and defensively. While pitching gave up runs till the fifth inning. After Milwaukee gained the lead in the sixth, thanks to a Williams Contreras single that allowed David Hamilton to score. Brewers pitching held the lead and never let the Dodgers get back into the game.

In fact for the rest of game 2 (beginning top of the 7th) all Dodgers batters either grounded out, flew out, lined out or struck out. Not a good scenario for LA; especially when Milwaukees bats stayed hot. The Brewers would tack on a few more runs in the eighth inning. And would get the win at home, 4-7.

Los Angeles now has their backs up against the wall. Brewers have the momentum. While LA watches as the goal of three-peating starts to slightly slip away. But for the Brewers they can taste the World Series like a cold iced beer.

The Milwaukee Brewers have never won a World Series in their franchise history. The Brewers have reached the World Series only once, during the 1982 season when they lost in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals. Now they are halfway there, two games away from making another WS appearance and possibly winning that long-awaited title.
