We really don’t like seeing players go down with injuries. Every player is important to their team so if one of them gets hurt the team is left in a bad way. Be injuries are even worse when they are so gruesome. Seeing former quarterback, Joe Theismann, have his leg broken on live television was traumatic. This past Sunday had another horrendous injury take place. Which is why NFL commentator J.J. Watt was right to advise audiences to look away.

Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Tyquan Thornton caught a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahones, gaining significant yards. However, after the catch Thornton crumpled to the ground realizing something was wrong. He gestured toward his ankle which was bent at an unnatural angle. It was at that point that Watt made his cautionary statement to the CBS viewing audience.

“That was a gruesome sight for Thornton,” a somber Jim Nantz remarked. Watt – who has replaced the recently departed Tony Romo as color commentator in CBS’ primary booth – provided prudent advice to the audience, stating: “Look away if you’re squeamish. The Chiefs – Walker, Worthy – they came up and saw what you saw at home. We’re going to step aside,” Nantz concluded.

Thornton had to be carted off the field as players from both teams kneeled in unison. However, Thornton was not the only Chiefs’ wide receiver to sustain an injury. Rashee Rice also had to leave the game due to a hamstring injury. First, he was seen stretching on the sideline then he was seen heading to the locker room for further examination. That left the Chiefs with Xavier Worthy, Cyrus Allen and Nikko Remigio as receivers.

Since the game an update has been provided about Thornton. According to ESPN NFL Insider Ian Rapoport: “WR Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated ankle that was put back into place by doctors earlier today. He did make the plane with the team.

After extensive tests today, Tyquan Thornton is expected back within 12 to 16 weeks, sources say. He’ll have surgery within the week and there is a real chance at a late-season or playoff return.”
Despite being low in the wide receiver’s department, the Chiefs still managed to come away with the 30-27 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Knowing that Thornton won’t be back anytime soon the Chiefs may want to get Tyreek Hill back even more so. We’ll have to wait and see what direction Hill decides to go. In the meantime, we wish a speedy recovery to Tyquan Thornton from such a gruesome injury.
