Nashville Predators Remember Former NHL Player and Coach Brent Peterson
The hockey world has lost so many this year. Individuals who have meant so much to fans, organizations, colleagues and vast communities that they have touched due to their talents, brilliance and love for the game. On September 11th the Nashville Predators remembered former NHL player and coach Brent Peterson after his passing from Parkinson’s Disease.
Peterson was an outstanding human being. Wonderful family man. And a true ambassador for not only the sport of hockey; but all those affected by Parkinson’s.
Peterson received his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2002 while working as an assistant coach for the Nashville Predators. Brent lived with Parkinson’s disease for 23 years after his diagnosis, becoming a dedicated advocate and foundation founder before passing away at age 68. Peterson passed away on September 11, 2026, as reported by The Tennessean, leaving behind a powerful legacy of positivity, humor, and advocacy in the hockey and Parkinson’s communities.
Nashville Predators Remember Former NHL Player and Coach Brent Peterson
The Nashville Predators released the following statement regarding Brent’s passing:
“It is with very heavy hearts that we announce today the passing of our friend, our co-worker and our forever Nashville Predators family member, Brent Peterson. Brent was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2002 and not only personally battled the disease but started the Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s in 2009 to support and enhance lives of people with Parkinson’s, their caregivers and families.
True to Brent’s nature, he thought of others before himself up until his passing this morning. Brent loved a good laugh and lived with Parkinson’s for 23 years, facing every day with a smile and a joke, no matter what his battle brought to him that day.
In addition to serving as a beacon to so many involved in the fight against Parkinson’s, Brent served as an inspiration to hundreds of Predators players, coaches, and staff members for nearly 30 years, first joining the organization as an assistant coach in 1998.
Please join us with love and prayers of support for Brent’s wife, Tami, along with his son Brad, daughter Kristin, extended family and the many others who knew and loved Brent. He will always hold a special place in the hearts of our Predators family and all who knew him across hockey and beyond.”
For more than 20 years, Brent Peterson gave his all as a player in the NHL and coach for the Portland Winter Hawks and Nashville Predators. Peterson was forced to retire due to the advancement of Parkinson’s Disease (PD). In subsequent years, he underwent the radical Deep Brain Stimulation procedure and later released My Toughest Faceoff, an autobiography detailing his career and battle with Parkinson’s. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and all those who knew the amazing “Petey.”
