Milwaukee Bucks Finalizing Deal to Make Taylor Jenkins the Franchise’s New Head Coach

There were a couple head coach vacancies in the league, however, one has now been filled. The Milwaukee Bucks and Taylor Jenkins are finalizing a deal to make Jenkins the franchise’s new head coach. Jenkins, a Bucks assistant in 2018-19, went 250-214 and made three postseasons across six seasons in Memphis. This move and decision is just the beginning of a large future summer overhaul as Milwaukee looks to start a new era of Bucks basketball. Jenkins took a year off after parting ways with Memphis as the Grizzlies’ head coach.

So then, the Bucks have decided to take on a coach that used to be “in-house.” A full circle moment if you will. Going with a candidate that is already familiar with the organization’s culture, goals, values and players. Shams Charania of ESPN reported on the Milwaukee Bucks hiring by revealing,

“BREAKING: The Milwaukee Bucks and Taylor Jenkins are finalizing a deal to make Jenkins the franchise’s new head coach, sources tell me and Ramona Shelburne. Jenkins, a Bucks assistant in 2018-19, went 250-214 and made three postseasons across six seasons in Memphis.

Jenkins was seen as the top available commodity in the NBA coaching landscape, and his player development pedigree, tenure as a culture-setter and someone who drives competitiveness made him the Bucks’ top target. The Bucks’ brass, including ownership, met in person with Jenkins last week in Memphis and on Tuesday in Milwaukee to secure his commitment, sources said.”

Jenkins won 54 percent of his games during his time in Memphis. The high point was during the 2021-22 season, when Memphis tied a franchise record with 56 regular-season victories and also won a playoff series for the first time since 2015. Taylor Jenkins time with the Grizzlies can briefly be summed as follows:

– 250-214 Record
– Winningest coach in Franchise History
– Led the team to back-to-back 50 win seasons
– Led the team to 3 playoff appearances

The Bucks wanted to secure one of the top names on the coaching market before other teams have a chance to enter the fray after postseason eliminations. And that’s exactly what they have done. Congratulations to Jenkins and can’t wait to see what other moves Milwaukee makes in the near future.
