Mets Sticking With Manager Carlos Mendoza Despite Team’s Worst Start in Years
The manager carousel in Major League Baseball had been swinging as of late as the Phillies parted ways with Rob Thomson and Red Sox waved bye to Alex Cora. However, over in New York it is a different story. The New York Mets have decided to stick with manager Carlos Mendoza despite the team’s worst start in years.
The Mets haven’t just been bad; they have been historically terrible. New York is now living through a 10-21 start, the third-worst in franchise history through 31 games after the 1981 (8-22-1) and 1964 (9-22) teams. But truth be told, a big reason for this unsavory outcome is the injury bug that has plagued the organization. Injuries to Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, Jorge Polanco and others have wreaked havoc on the franchise offensively.
Nevertheless, according to Mets beat writer, Anthony DiComo; New York does not believe all the blame for the organization’s poor start can be solely placed on the actions and efforts of Mendoza. They aim to give Carlos the opportunity and chance to right the ship. DiComo reveals,
“In the eyes of team decision-makers, the blame should be spread throughout the organization, from baseball operations to the clubhouse…
Club officials do not place the responsibility for that on Mendoza.
Instead, Mendoza will be given a chance to execute one of the more dramatic turnarounds in baseball history. With 131 games still to play, Mets officials believe there is enough time for the Mets to run back up the National League standings.”

If the Mets do in fact get on the right track, it would be one of the greatest comebacks in baseball history. Only four teams in MLB history have lost 10 or more games in a row and made the playoffs. The Mets endured a 12 game losing streak this season.
Nevertheless, the ball club is staying positive and is moving full steam ahead. Keeping everything and everyone in place. David Stearns told DiComo, “We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more. We don’t view this as a manager problem, and we don’t intend to make a change.”
