Los Angles Lakers Fire Head Coach Darvin Ham

Los Angles Lakers Fire Head Coach Darvin Ham After 2 Seasons

There’s a lot of moving elements right now for LA. There’s been whispering of possible interest of drafting Lebron James’ son, Bronny. And now there’s change coming from the coaching staff. The Los Angles Lakers have fired Head Coach Darvin Ham after just 2 seasons; and losing in the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets.

This news comes as a bit of shock for some NBA fans. Ham was certainly not terrible. Had flaws like many other coaches; but he did experience some successful highs with the team; like winning the first ever In-Season Tournament.

However, the Lakers are looking for more from their head coach; it’s just not enough to appear in the playoffs. They desire and want to be more competitive and achieve more full season championships. Thus, the change in HC.

Nevertheless, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski revealed more details in regards to this coaching situation. Intel referring to how Ham found out about the firing; and how Los Angeles may handle things in the near future with the next successor. Such as when it comes to constructing a stronger team. Wojnarowski states:

“BREAKING: The Los Angeles Lakers dismissed coach Darvin Ham, sources tell ESPN. In two seasons, Ham was 90-74 with a Western Conference Finals berth, two Play-In victories and an In-Season title. Lakers lost in five games to Denver in opening-round.

Lakers GM Rob Pelinka informed Ham of decision in phone call short time ago, sources said. After run to Western finals a year ago and winning 47 games this season, it’ll likely be Ham’s successor who’ll get chance to benefit from organization using major draft capital to upgrade roster in offseason.

Ham is the first Lakers coach to make the playoffs and not return the following season since Phil Jackson in 2011, per Matt Williams (ESPN Research Producer).”

Furthermore, the Lakers head coach situation can not be helping when it comes to team stability. It has been a constant “revolving” door since the departure of the legendary Phil Jackson. To put things into perspective, since 2011 when Phil Jackson left; the Los Angeles Lakers have had 7 head coaches in 13 years. Let’s list them: Mike Brown, Bernie Bickerstaff (5 games), Mike D’Antoni, Byron Scott, Luke Walton, Frank Vogel, and now Darvin Ham.

Most would agree that’s a lot. A lot of constant change, philosophies and ideas to put a team through. On average, if the math is mathing; that’s like a rate of a new coach about every 2 years.

Therefore, this is a situation that the purple and gold definitely need to get under control. The right hire can make all the difference. And it needs to be the correct candidate… otherwise… we might just be having this conversation again in 24 months. However, for the sake of Lakers fans, we hope not.
