Los Angeles Celebrates Being Two Years Away From the 2028 Olympics

Time is flying and slowing down for no one. Can you believe that we are hurdling towards the next Summer Games and are less than 740 days away? Today, Los Angeles celebrates being just two years away from the 2028 Olympics!

Yes, it has been two years since Simone Biles and Team USA gymnastics (aka the Golden Girls) won gold. Since Katie Ledecky obliterated the competition in the Women’s 1500m freestyle. Two years after the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics team won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, scoring 257.793. This historic win on July 29, 2024, snapped a 16-year team medal drought for the USA men. Then we cheered (some of us cried lol) as Stephen Nedoroscik won an individual bronze in the men’s pommel horse final with a score of 15.300.

And finally, yes it is two years since we watched basketball transform into a Court of Gold for the United States. With a team led by Kevin Durant, LeBron James and oh yeah, Stephen Curry’s clutch three-pointers in the fourth quarter versus France. All of us literally ran around doing the night night celly at home, work and in numerous sports bars. Great times.

Nonetheless, another exciting aspect of the Paris Olympics for Team USA was delivered by the track and field team. Team USA track and field relay teams won three gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics: the women’s 4 × 100 m, the men’s 4 × 400 m, and the women’s 4 × 400 m. Additionally, it was the U.S. women’s 4 × 100 m team that won gold with a time of 41.78 seconds, securing America’s first victory in the event since the 2016 Rio Games.

You may recall that the four ladies to demolish their global competition were:

Leadoff: Melissa Jefferson
Backstretch: Twanisha “TeeTee” Terry
Second Leg: Gabby Thomas
Anchor: Sha’Carri Richardson

Richardson’s explosiveness was highlighted everywhere after the race. In fact, it was Sha’Carri’s wild come-from-behind anchor leg that helped to clinch gold for Team USA.
