Liberty and Aces Blow Out the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx

The WNBA playoffs are here and two recent champion teams are showing why they are still the Queens of the league. Sunday included exciting matchups featuring players all honored by the Associated Press from this season’s Rookie of the Year to this year’s MVP. Nevertheless, New York and Las Vegas made quite the statement taking a 1-0 lead over their respective opponents. The Liberty and Aces blow out the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx.

Winning in the postseason is routine for the Las Vegas Aces as well as New York Liberty. The Liberty have won a title as recently as 2024. Whereas the Aces have experienced even more success. Grabbing back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023. Then, sitting on top of the league yet again in 2025 as WNBA World Champions.

Now these two franchises are at it again. And with more history at stake. The Liberty have the opportunity to win the second championship in their franchise history. What about the Aces?

Well, the WNBA Finals records show that the Houston Comets, Minnesota Lynx, and Seattle Storm share the record for the most team championships with four titles each. Las Vegas has an opportunity to join this elusive club. Having won three championships over a four-year span (2022, 2023, and 2025), the core led by A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young is aiming to join elite WNBA company with a fourth franchise title.

Entering the 2026 playoffs as the No. 3 seed under head coach Becky Hammon, the Aces started their opening-round series against the Indiana Fever at Michelob ULTRA Arena. AND THEY DOMINATED. Aces got a lead in the second quarter and never relinquished command. The Fever never got into a rhythm, although there were brief sparks of life from Raven Johnson, Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark.

But Vegas was AMAZING. Both sides of the ball they impressed. Las Vegas beat the Indiana Fever 102-85 in Game 1 of their first-round WNBA playoff series on September 27, 2026. MVP A’ja Wilson had a STATEMENT game leading all scorers with 38 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocks. And Jackie Young added 19 points and 10 assists for the Aces.

Meanwhile during Lynx/Liberty the game remained TIGHT till the fourth quarter. Going into the 4th, Liberty led 63-60. But the Liberty kept the foot on the gas burying the Lynx. Eighth seeded New York defeated the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 91-75 in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. Stewart led her team with 34 points and 12 rebounds.

Additionally, Stewie made WNBA playoff history with a monster stat line. Stewart becomes the first player in WNBA playoff history to record 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 2 steals.
