Jacksonville Jaguars Retained their Tight End Brenton Strange Agreed to 3-Year Extension

I don’t know about you, but I was appalled when I saw quarterback Trevor Lawrence have his golden locks shaved off. Fortunately, it turned out to be a joke, and his famous tresses are still intact. But the Jaguars have not been joking around when it comes to their roster. So, today the Jacksonville Jaguars retained their tight end Brenton Strange as they agreed to a 3-year extension. Strange has stepped up in the tight end position since the team let Evan Engram move on after the 2024 season.

Strange was selected by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. NFL Insiders Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero reported that Strange and the Jaguars agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $48 million. It includes $25 million in guaranteed money for Strange. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2026 regular season. That’s off the table now that he has been locked up by the Jags. Which makes sense because he is a young player and one of the best at his position.

He had his best season last year with career highs in receptions (46), receiving yards (540) and touchdown receptions (three) despite missing five games with a hip injury. While he was out the Jags went 2-3 so his presence was sorely missed. He spoke to the media on Thursday morning and said the following:

“I feel like Duval is home to me. It’s just exciting to be here, to get it out of the way and continue to build. I take a lot of pride in going out there and just playing good for this city and playing good for this organization. This is where I wanted to be. I’m happy here and I’m just excited we got the deal done.”

Head coach Liam Coen commented on his value to the offense and how Brenton will continue to evolve with it:

“He sets the tone as a run blocker and plays a huge role in the pass game as well,” Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen said in a release Thursday. “As our offense continues to evolve, Brenton’s role will continue to evolve with it.

“His work ethic and dedication define our core values and our culture, and we’re excited to keep developing this offense with him as a main focal point.”

According to Strange he is still trying to process getting his second contract. But he went on to say that:

“This is kind of what I always dreamed of,” he said. “This was always a part of the plan for me. I wanted this to happen. I just didn’t know the steps I was going to need to take, but it was just putting my head down every single day, going to work and just trying to maximize and become the best player that I can become.”

Congratulations to Brenton Strange on his new contract extension and becoming a focal point of the Jaguars offense!
