Indiana Fever Closed Out Road Trip with Dominant Win over the Las Vegas Aces
They got the job done without Caitlin Clark having to be the superstar. In fact, she only scored 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists. But she was on a minutes restriction so naturally she would not have scored as much. But it didn’t matter anyway. Her teammates stepped up and put in a masterful performance last night. With their 109-75 victory the Indiana Fever closed out a four-game road trip with a dominant win over the Las Vegas Aces. It was the second largest win in franchise history.
Kelsey Mitchell led the team with 27 points; Sophie Cunningham had 20 points and Aliyah Boston finished with 19 points for the game. MThanks to double digit scoring by both Nitchell (11) and Boston (10), the Fever were able to take an 11-point lead into halftime at 59-48. It was also a special night for Kelsey Mitchell as she appeared in her 300th game. She’s only the second player to do so in franchise history. The other person is Tamika Catchings who played in 457 games as a member of the Indiana Fever.
The Fever really picked up the pace in the second half of the game. And it didn’t hurt that Cunningham was knocking down three-pointers like somebody owed her money. Overall, the Fever converted 48.4% of their three-point shots whereas the Aces only converted 23.5% of theirs. They also edged out the Aces in free throws percentage, rebounds and assists. While having fewer blocks, turnovers and personal fouls. Therefore, it’s not surprising that this game marked the team’s seventh 100+ scoring game of the season.

For the Aces things didn’t work out so well last night. They were off on their shooting missing multiple baskets. Only A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young finished with double digit points, 20 and 15 respectively. The Aces hit 50% of their shots from the field but were just 1 of 4 behind the arc, while the Fever shot 64.7% overall and 5 of 7 from deep. Free throws helped out the Aces with Jewel Lloyd making a pair with four minutes left in the half bringing the Aces within eight points at 56-48. But the Fever would go onto explode in the second half of the game.
The fourth quarter got started with three quick Indiana buckets extending Indiana’s lead by 20 points. It was over from there as the Aces could not recover from that deficit. The good news for the Aces is that they will have some rest time after playing three games in four days. They have a much-needed break in action before traveling to Toronto for their first meeting against the Tempo on July 20.
