Major League Baseball held its draft during the weekend right before MLB All-Star events commence. There are 613 total pick selections in the 2026 MLB Draft. Nonetheless, before we get to all of the team draft selections. One name baseball fans always want to know is who went first? Well, the Chicago White Sox won the draft lottery and the first overall selection.
Therefore, the Chicago White Sox got things started by selecting UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky. Roch will enjoy lifetime bragging rights of being the number one overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. Moreover, his selection was officially made on July 11, 2026, in Philadelphia.
However, Chicago got themselves a really good one. All you have to do is look at a few recent accomplishments. For instance, Cholowsky was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. An award given annually to the most outstanding amateur baseball player in the nation.
