Houston Texans and DE Will Anderson Jr. Reached Agreement on a Three-Year Extension
He’s been a stalwart component of their defense for since he was selected with the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft. Prior to that he played football for the Alabama Crimson Tide where he won the Bronco Nagurski award twice. As well as helping Alabama win the National Championship in 2020. He took his winning ways to the NFL where he has established himself as a necessary part of Houston’s defense. So, it is no surprise that on Friday the Houston Texans and DE Will Anderson Jr. reached an agreement on a three-year extension. As reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the extension is worth $150 million.
Rapoport also went on to say that the new deal makes him the highest-paid non-QB ever, includes $134 million guaranteed and also features a no-trade clause. The deal with Anderson lines up with the one-year, $40.1 million extension given to compatriot Danielle Hunter on March 5. So, the Texans have kept their defensive players intact for at least another season. And there’s no doubt Anderson has proved his worth to the team since he was drafted. Under head coach DeMeco Ryan, a former Texan himself, the defense has flourished.
Will Anderson was voted AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and earned Pro Bowl honors after posting seven sacks that season. But that was only the beginning for him as the number of his sacks has risen every season. He wrangled an additional 11 in 2024 and 12 last season. His 2025 season was so good that he earned a second Pro Bowl nod and finished second in AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting behind the Browns’ Myles Garrett.

Nevertheless, with Ryan’s coaching and Anderson and Hunter becoming a dynamic duo the Houston Texans continue to be a constant fixture in the AFC playoffs. But the Super Bowl has remained elusive for them. However, at only 24 years of age Anderson still has plenty of time to lift his team to higher heights.
The Texans already have a playoff win in each of the past three seasons. And they have won back-to-back AFC South titles during his first two seasons. Throughout 46 games Anderson has totaled 30 sacks, 136 tackles (46 for loss), four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. The sky is the limit for Anderson and the Houston Texans. Maybe this season they will finally reach the clouds, congratulations on the extension Will!
