Hawks and Dream Announce Doubleheader at State Farm Arena With Date Changes For WNBA Finals

There’s been a LOT of fan discussion as well as a huge outpouring in support for the Dream online. With the Atlanta community wanting a solution that will allow more spectators to come watch the WNBA Finals in-person. Well, after a few days of negotiations and talks, fans are about to get exactly what they have been asking for all weekend. The Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Dream have jointly announced that they will play a doubleheader at State Farm Arena along with key date changes.

The WNBA announced that Game 3 will be moved to 10/21 and Game 4 will move to 1 PM ET on 10/24. To accommodate the Dream on 10/24, the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks have agreed to move the start time of their regular-season home opener that evening.

The official announcement from the Dream and Hawks organizations read as follows:

“The Atlanta Dream and Atlanta Hawks are proud to announce that Games 3 and 4 of the WNBA Finals will be played at State Farm Arena. Game 3 will be Wednesday, October 21, at 8 p.m., and Game 4 will be Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m. as part of an exciting basketball doubleheader, with the Hawks taking on the Houston Rockets at 8:30 p.m. in their 2026-27 regular season home opener that evening.

Relocating Games 3 and 4 of the WNBA Finals from Gateway Center Arena to State Farm Arena was a complex undertaking that required extraordinary collaboration to navigate numerous challenges in a short time period. The Dream is grateful to the Golden State Valkyries, the Hawks, the NBA, the WNBA, and both league’s broadcast partners. Without their focus and flexibility, this would not have happened.

Ensuring that Games 3 and 4 of the Finals will be played at State Farm Arena is an important moment for the Dream’s players, fans, the organization and the city of Atlanta and is a testament to the extraordinary momentum of the team, women’s basketball and the growing impact of women’s sports.

Tickets for Games 3 and 4 of the WNBA Finals will go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m. Fans can get first access to Finals tickets by joining the Priority List or signing up for the general presale at atlantadream.com.”

Two different owners, two different leagues (NBA and WNBA) have come together to provide a solution that benefits basketball fans. This is huge and continues to prove that the growth being seen in women’s sports is real. Rachel Bachman of WSJ comments,

“NBA teams are moving their tipoff time for the WNBA Finals. On Oct. 24, the Atlanta Hawks will play their home opener v. Houston 30 minutes later, at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Atlanta Dream play Game 4 v. the Golden State Valkyries at 1 pm that day.

What makes this an even bigger deal: The Atlanta Hawks and Dream have different owners. The NBA, WNBA, TV partners and involved teams all had to coordinate to make this happen.”

The WNBA moving its Finals schedule, now allows the Dream to host games at a bigger arena. The 17,000-seat State Farm Arena had been previously booked during the Dream’s current home Finals dates for a Sombr concert and Atlanta Hawks games. But with coordination, the conflicting schedules and the logistics have been smoothed out.

Furthermore, this also proves that fans do have a voice. Fans spoke up and were clearly heard. Their demands to see the Dream play in a larger venue for the Finals will now be realized. Thanks to WNBA fans, all Atlanta Dream WNBA Finals games will be held at State Farm Arena.
