The Eagles have been one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Recently, winning a Super Bowl in 2025 while setting viewership records. However, Philly schools have been extremely hot as well, but not for good reasons. Some Philadelphia schools are so old it would take enormous sums to keep children cool and in a good atmosphere for learning. For years, now Jalen Hurts has been quietly using his own money to make a change. This week it was announced that Eagles QB Jalen Hurts’ Foundation is donating $600K to upgrade the air conditioning system at Northeast HS.
As the new NFL season begins, most sports enthusiasts don’t know the good work Hurts is putting in behind the scenes. All most football fans have seen is Jalen Hurts lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a 24-22 Week 1 victory over the Washington Commanders. Passing for 203 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions (122.2 QB rating).
However, it is off the field that Jalen is shining just as bright. Northeast High School is getting a new HVAC system, thanks to Philadelphia’s QB1. The Jalen Hurts Foundation is making its largest donation yet with a $600,000 grant investment in a new HVAC unit for the school. The gift is from the foundation’s initiative to improve air conditioning in Philadelphia schools.
Students who attend Philly’s schools often have had to contend with 90 degree plus temperatures with no AC. Such weather leads to children being dismissed from school early and a severe lack of teachers wanting to educate under such conditions. More than half of the 218 schools across the School District of Philadelphia have lacked adequate air conditioning. Leading to classroom disruptions when temperatures spike. Hurts noticed this problem and took action.
The world champion started chipping at this AC issue in 2024 with $200,000. Which mercifully put more than 300 air conditioners into ten schools and reached about 5,500 kids. Then Hurts made it a season-long thing. Five thousand dollars of his own money for every touchdown he scored. They called it TDs for ACs. He was past $100,000 by Week 10. Then a hot sauce company saw his efforts and matched him.

Flash forward to now and Jalen is still quietly at work helping to improve school conditions in Philly. Now the biggest high school in the city will be receiving a full HVAC system due to Hurts’ generosity and dedication. He’s writing checks for HVAC systems in buildings older than his grandparents.
But Jalen is happy making a difference in the Philly community. And he continues to set a fine example for others and generations to come. The city’s goal is to have every school properly cooled by 2027.
