Dodgers Acquire Tarik Skubal From Tigers Adding Him Rotation That Already Leads MLB in Starters
Los Angeles just got scarier. They are already one of the best teams in Baseball and strongly one of the franchises to beat, sitting on top of the standings with the Brewers with 69 wins apiece. However, now the blue men add yet another pitching threat. The Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal and his 2.79 ERA from the Tigers to add him to a rotation that already leads MLB in starters. LA now has 4 starters with a sub-3 ERA along with Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Justin Wrobleski.
With the acquisition of Tarik Skubal, the Los Angeles Dodgers will become the first team in MLB history to have both the previous two seasons’ winners of the Cy Young (Skubal) and MVP (Shohei Ohtani). The last time that both the reigning Cy Young and MVP played on the same team was the 2014 Detroit Tigers with ace Max Scherzer and Miguel Cabrera.
ESPN MLB insider, Jeff Passan broke the news regarding Skubal and the package it took for him to be moved. Passan reported,
“BREAKING: The Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, sources tell ESPN.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith.”

In other Dodgers news, the franchise has been keeping a close eye on their Big Man, Shohei Ohtani. Shohei has been missing from the mound due to injury. Nevertheless, Dodgers President of Baseball Operations, Andrew Friedman; reiterated his expectation that Shohei Ohtani will recover from his knee injury and return to the rotation. He hopes to have really difficult decisions going into October.
Furthermore, on adding Tarik Skubal to a rotation that was already strong. Friedman says,
“I don’t think we went into this thing saying this is an acute need. But as we’ve talked about a lot, whenever there’s a star-level player that is available that can really shift championship odds, those are the moments that we’ll be more aggressive. We’ve tried other instances and not lined up and others where we have. But I think being by the backboard and doing everything we can to put ourselves in the best position, with the core we have right now, with the way they go about their preparation to do everything they can to win a championship — when we can add to that, and enhance our chances, we’re gonna be aggressive to do so.”
Los Angeles Dodgers are aggressively pursuing an historic third straight World Series title. If successful in their quest, Los Angeles will become the first team in National League history to win three consecutive World Series titles. It’s going to be fun to see if they can make history.
