Cristiano Ronaldo to Play For Portugal After Considering Retirement Following World Cup

Retirement? Not just yet for this football great. Cristiano Ronaldo has decided that he will continue to play for Portugal after considering retirement from international football following the World Cup.

Ronaldo believes he can help the national team “reach what they want.” Therefore, he is not hanging up his shoes just yet. Cristiano will finish playing when he feels like he’s “not doing anything here.”

Regarding this situation involving Ronaldo choosing to play instead of retirement, Cristiano reveals,

“I thought about RETIRING from international football after the World Cup. But I spoke to the President, Coach and I am still here. I am an asset, I can help.

If Portugal no longer wants to rely on me, I can leave from today. I have no problem with that.

Or even the president. When they no longer want to rely on me in the national team, I’ll be the first to speak to them about it. If they rely on me, I rely on them. And the Portuguese people rely on me. That’s why I continue playing for the national team.”

So then, as of right now Cristiano Ronaldo has no plans for slowing down. He will play on, not just for himself; but for his fans. From older ones right down to the smallest ones. Ronaldo takes being a role model seriously and wants to still inspire the next generation. Cristiano says,

“The young kids love me because they saw me as an example and that for me is the most important thing…

I will continue to do that even when I retire after 10 years!”(he says with laughter).”

And as he gets older, Ronaldo understands his role on the field may change as well. However, he is fully adaptable for the good of Portugal.

Cristiano makes clear, “Whatever the coach needs from me with the national team, whether that means playing, coming off, coming on, coming off again, or even not playing at all. I am available. The pride I feel in representing Portugal is greater than that of any other international player.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed the goals he is working towards before hanging his boots up. 1,000 goals and defending Portugal’s Nations League trophy. Ronaldo says reaching his 1000th goal would be even more special if he scored it for Portugal.
