Chicago Bears and Offensive Lineman Darnell Wright Agreed on Contract Extension
He was drafted tenth overall in the 2023 NFL draft. No doubt to help protect their young star quarterback Caleb Williams. And he had done everything in his power to help keep his signal caller upright. Recognizing his value to the team they made a move to keep him for the duration. The Chicago Bears and offensive lineman Darnell Wright agreed on a contract extension.
It is a four-year, $116 million contract extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday. And it includes $93 million in guaranteed money, the most for an offensive lineman in NFL history. He has proven his necessity to the team, earning his first-career AP All-Pro recognition in 2025. Wright started all 18 appearances at right tackle (postseason included), and the third-year pro helped lead Chicago to an NFC North Division title and an appearance in the NFC Divisional Round.
The head coach of the Chicago Bears expressed his appreciation for Wright, stating:
“Our team is rooted in being driven by belief and built by hard work, and Darnell epitomizes our culture in every way,” said head coach Ben Johnson. “We are excited that Darnell will remain an integral member of our team as we work toward championship-level execution in all that we do.”
Wright also serves as the backbone of the Chicago offense. Being a part of the Bears offensive front that helped lead the league in fewest giveaways (11) in the regular season last year, ranking No. 4 in the NFL over the final 14 weeks of the regular season. Therefore, it made sense for the Bears to acknowledge the critical role that he plays with a contract extension.

We’re certain quarterback Caleb Williams, who set the franchise’s single-season passing yard record, is happy about the signing. Especially since Wright allowed just 24 sacks, the third fewest by any team in the league in 2025. The general manager also expressed his appreciation for Wright, saying:
“As we continue to build our team and develop our culture, we are excited that Darnell will remain a cornerstone of our franchise as we work toward creating sustained success,” said general manager Ryan Poles. “Darnell has consistently elevated his play and the performance of his teammates since joining our team, and we look forward to his continued growth and leadership for years to come.”
Prior to the Tuesday walk-through session concluding Wright found out that he’d just locked up a four-year contract extension. He said, “I was excited. I’m happy. I’m very happy. It was kind of surprising. Not surprising it happened, but I was surprised that it was done and finished.”
