Athletics Dismiss Pitching Coach as Bally’s Nears Funding Goal for Crucial Part of A’s Ballpark Site
The A’s have experienced a lot of change over the years. Especially, as they continue to embark on their move to at long last reside in the city of Las Vegas. However, more transformation is on the horizon, this time when it comes to the ball club’s staff. Monday morning it was announced that the Athletics have dismissed their pitching coach as Bally’s nears its funding goal for a crucial part of the A’s ballpark site.
Beginning with the news of the coaching dismissal. The Athletics released the following brief statement:
“The A’s have dismissed pitching coach Scott Emerson. Bullpen coach Dan Hubbs will serve as interim pitching coach for the remainder of the 2026 season.”
The A’s are currently almost dead last in their division, the AL West. Sitting only above the Angels and almost ten wins behind the leader in the division, the Texas Rangers. The A’s are below .500 with 41 wins and 55 losses so far this season. Therefore, it is not a surprise that the organization would like to shake things up.
Well, as the team continues to iron out its staff and roster; construction continues for the franchise’s new ballpark. The Athletics’ new $2 billion ballpark in Las Vegas is scheduled to be completed and open for the 2028 Major League Baseball season, with a targeted completion date of February 29, 2028.

Furthermore, Bally’s has been hard at work to finish obtaining the funds for an important aspect of the land surrounding the Athletics’ Las Vegas ballpark. Bally’s Corp. chairman Soo Kim told the Las Vegas Review-Journal,
“The money would be used to build the northwest podium of the gaming company’s multi-phase mixed-use project that is planned be built on the 24 acres that will accompany the $2 billion stadium, which is being built on a separate 9 acres of the 35-acre site, located on the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.
The multilevel podium is expected to feature food and beverage, dining and entertainment options before and after A’s games and attract visitors to the site on non-event days. Bally’s is keeping the A’s and the landowner of the site, Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc., informed of the progress of their Las Vegas plans.”
Bally’s project is also including a 2,500-stall parking garage and multilevel plaza. Moreover, future phases of Bally’s project include a hotel and casino, more retail and dining space and a 2,500-seat theater. In total, Bally’s project is estimated to carry a cost of $1.1 billion.
